Load the temperatures, dew points and winds from each of the short and medium range models into the Grid Manager.
You will need to use the Weather Element Browser to do this. Open the Weather Element Browser from the Main Menu: Weather Element->Weather Element Browser... In the column labelled "Source" select each of the short and medium range models (e.g., NAM12, GFS80). Next, in the column labelled "Field" select "T", "Td", and "Wind". From the third column, select the "Misc" menu and select "SFC". Finally select the "Load and Dismiss" button located at the bottom-left of the dialog. The GFE will load T, Td and Wind from each the models that you selected.
Load all of the Fire Weather parameters into the Grid Manager.
There are several ways to load the Fire Weather elements into the GFE. You could use the Weather Element Browser as in the last exercise, but that might be somewhat tedious. The quickest way to accomplish this is to load the Weather Element Group that corresponds to the Fire Weather elements into the GFE. To load a Weather Element Group, from the Main Menu select the item Weather Element->Weather Element Groups->FireWx. The GFE will then load those elements used for Fire Weather forecasts.
Load all of the Public weather parameters into the Grid Manager.
Loading the Public Weather elements is most easily accomplished by selecting from the Main Menu: Weather Element->Weather Element Groups->Public. See the section on Loading Weather Element Groups for more information.
Create a new Weather Element Group that contains QPF, Wx, Sky, and SnowAmt
Creating a new Weather Element Group is done via the Weather Element Browser. First you use the Browser to define the set of weather elements and then assign the set a name. Start by displaying the Weather Element Browser by selecting from the Main Menu: Weather Element->Weather Element Browser. Then from Source select Fcst, from Field select the items QPF, Sky, and SnowAmt, and from Planes select SFC. Now still in the Weather Element Browser select File->Save Weather Element Group. Enter a name and select Save. Now you can close the Weather Element Dialog. From the GFE Main Menu, select Weather Element->Weather Element Groups. You should see your newly created Weather Element Group in that list.
